
Genaro M. Mendoza (b. April 8, 1961) is the current Mayor of Tarlac City and former Vice Mayor of the same city.
Mayor Mendoza was born in Sta. Ana, Manila to Natividad and Nereo Mendoza Sr. He comes from a family of heroes. Dr. Jose Rizal’s sister, Soledad, is Mayor Aro’s great great grandmother while the last Filipino General to surrender from the American forces, General Miguel Malvar is Mayor Aro’s great grandfather.
He finished his elementary grades and secondary schoolyears at Don Bosco Technical Institute in 1973 and 1977, respectively. He earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Commerce Major in Marketing at San Beda College.
Prior to becoming a public servant, “Aro”, as popularly called, first became a farm manager of the Reyes-Teopaco Piggery Farm from 1981 to 1982 and assistant manager for operations at Asia Pacific Express Corporation from 1982 to 1987. He was director of Honasia (HK) Ltd. from 1986 to 1987.
He entered politics in 1988 when he was elected as municipal councilor (until 1992). From being a councilor he became vice mayor of Tarlac in 1992 and Provincial board member from 1995 to 1998. In 2001, as an independent candidate, he overwhelmingly won as the City Mayor.
