Mayor Ali is a Bachelor of Law graduate of the Mindanao State University and also holds Master Degrees of Arts in Economics and Development Management from Ateneo de Zamboanga, Xavier University and Asian Institute of Management, respectively. He is also the former Chairman of the Ranao Norte State Revolutionary Committee of the Moro National Liberation Front.
