Pedro Acharon Jr.Pedro A. Acharon, Jr. (b. August 8, 1958 – ) is the current Mayor of General Santos City.

He came from a political family: His father, Pedro A. Acharon, Sr., was the 2nd Municipal Mayor and his brother Antonio C. Acharon was the 5th City Chief Executive.

Mayor Acharon finished his elementary education at Dadiangas West Elementary School and secondary school years at Notre Dame Dadiangas College. He obtained his Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering at the College Cebu Institute of Technology.

Prior to becoming a public servant, he was an educator at the Mindanao Polytechnic College from 1981 to 1982 and practiced as Civil Engineer Supervising Field Engr. from 1981 to 1985. He was a project manager (1985-1992) and engineer consultant from 1992 to 1998.

He started in politics as a city Councilor from 1992 to 1998, where he was awarded as the Outstanding City Councilor of the New Republic of the Philippines in 1997. He became the city Vice Mayor in 1998 and was also cited as Most Outstanding City Vice Mayor of the Philippines in 1999. In 2001, he was sworn in as the 10th city Mayor when the position was declared vacant. He was re-elected in the last May 14 Election as mayor of General Santos.

He was a member of the official delegation of President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo to the State Visit to the Republic of Indonesia last December 2001. He is also an Honorary Citizen of Hadano City of Japan.

He is married to the former Rosalinda V. Abinion of Cebu with whom he has five children: Peter Jayson, Justin Mae, Joahanna, Pedro III and Rodney.
